Feed the Whole Family: Food options for big groups
So you’ve booked the Lodge and got everyone’s RSVPs, and now you need to figure out how to feed all of them. After years of seeing big groups stay in the lodge, we have tips and tricks for you and your family to use during your stay. Whether you want to go out and eat or stay at the lodge but don’t want to cook, we have some options for you!
Restaurants for Large Groups:
Some restaurants in Durango have large rooms that are perfect for hosting a whole family. Just make sure you call ahead to reserve the room, especially during peak tourist seasons like summer or around holidays.
Steamworks has a large back patio that is great for large groups.
Carver Brewing is located on the main street, so it is great if you want to do some shopping or get ice cream afterward (Cream Bean Berry is right across the street). They have a nice beer garden in the back that can be reserved for larger groups.
Zia Taqueria North Location has an upstairs patio that can hold many people, but they don’t usually take reservations.
James Ranch Grill has a ton of outdoor seating and plenty of room for kiddos to run around.
Bar D Chuckwagon is a fun, family-friendly activity if you want dinner and a show.
Serious Texas South Location has a lot of outdoor seating and mini golf to burn off some of that BBQ.
Ska Brewery also has a decent amount of space outside and has fabulous pizzas.
11th Street Station also has a large back patio that can be reserved for large groups. Plus, they have a variety of food trucks so everyone can find something that they like.

Food to pick up and bring to the Lodge:
Because we are located so close to the mountains, most restaurants won't deliver, but if you want to take a scenic drive and bring some food back with you, here are some great options.
Take and Bake: Papa Murphy’s and Homeslice
Pizza: Olde School House is just 5 minutes away. Homeslice, Happy Pappy’s, J Bo’s, and Fired Up are Durango favorites, but we also have options like Domino’s and Pizza Hut too.
Sandwiches: Tom’s Deli is a fan favorite, plus RGP’s (flame-grilled wraps) and the deli at Nature’s Oasis (get the Bambino) are all great options.
Coffee: Durango Joes, 81301, Durango Coffee Company, Bread, and Still Life are all awesome coffee shops with specialty coffee drinks and pastries. At the Lodge, we have amazing ground coffee from Desert Sun Coffee Roasters, a local business that is dedicated to working directly with farmers to insure quality beans and fair trade.

Cooking at the Lodge
You are more than welcome to cook your meals at the Lodge. We have two kitchens for you to use: the Breakfast Room and the Columbine Room. Both have ovens, stoves, sinks, microwaves, and dishes. The Columbine room has two dishwashers, two fridges, two ovens, and a pantry full of dishes, pots, pans, glassware, plates, and silverware for you to use. For a more thorough list, check out this blog.
We hope this list of restaurants made planning your trip to the Lodge a little easier and gave you some ideas for local favorites. If you ever have any questions feel free to send us an email and hello@theblackdiamondlodge.com or give us a call/text at 970-509-2199.
